Recycle Cans

Third Quarter Results

WINGS received proceeds of $32, 997.16 for the period JUL-SEPT 2011. Total funds recieved YEAR-TO-DATE for 2011 IS $96,195.58. Although we have enjoyed an increase in the dollar abount from the same period in 2010, thanks to the rise in the price of aluminum, the actual number of pounds collected has decreased significantly. In order to reverse this trend we need your HELP! Please remember to place ALL opened cans back into inserts. This is the only approved location for cans to be recycled. Any cans placed on oven racks or collected in market bags (even if marked with the green recycling tags) are considered trash & will be discarded. If possible, avoid placing cans in the carts that contain perishable food items as some cities have strict USDA requirements that all items in those carts must be discarded.

Recycling Information

Onboard recycling of used aluminum cans first started in 1989 (by one SJC AA Flight Attendant Heather Bell) & was maintained on the grass roots level by LAX Flight Attendant Jackie Graham for more than 10 years. Then it was appointed to the trust & administration of The Wings Foundation

We Rely on YOU!

Renewed awareness of the Wings Recycling Program has continued to increase as individuals focus on ways to protect the environment & conserve energy. Miami based flight attendant Robert Amaya & Washington, DC based flight attendant Jennifer Wilson have been tireless in their efforts to increase interest in the program. In 2006 we implemented the use of the recycling cart tag & rolled out the awareness campaign "I Recycle! ~ Do YOU?". The funds raised go directly to the benefit of the Flight Attendant Disaster Relief Fund (FADRF). American Airlines DOES NOT benefit from the financial proceeds raised by the recycling program, however we are grateful for the full support & cooporation of American Airlines Flight Service & the aircraft catering companies "LSG Sky Chef's" & "Gate Gourmet".

We Recycle Corks Too

Wings now has the support of AA Flight Service as we encourage Flight Attendants to collect corks for recycling through the Wings Foundation cork recycling program. All types of corks are accepted including Champagne & synthetic corks. Collected corks can be dropped into the cork collection boxes in Flight Service Operations areas at each Base.

We could not do it without the combined help of socially conscious American Airlines Flight Attendants.
Thank You!
